When choosing a for my teaser trailer genre i put a lot of thought into thinking about what the audience would want and what people would enjoy watching the most . The reason for me to choose the horror genre was at the time we started planning our teaser trailer there was a very big interest in horror films, as films such as paranormal activity had just been released and also with the films such as saw 2 just came out and the popularity that film had it made us realise that that was going to be one of the main choices of genre, for us to finalize that decision we did a questionnaire looking into what the public would want the majority of that wanted to see a horror film or romantic comedy . So from that decision we decided that we would make a horror genre and base it around creating tension fright and fear to the audience.
I used a combination of media technologies such as; Internet, Picasso , a digital camera, I movie and Microsoft word. I used the internet to create my blog and find suitable sound track on youtube . using picasso i constructructed my media film poster and my magazine cover. The Camera was used to film my teaser trailer as well as take photos. Finally Microsoft word was used to produce textual analysis, of a magazine cover, poster and trailer that linked to and inspired my film. i found i movie quite easy to use especially dragging the clips together to make it all link together i also found it quite easy to synchronise the soundtrack and film together. Then we modified the clips by using video enhancement tools such as; transition, audio, colour and speed tools. we added fade to black fade after each shot to create a slicker looking cut. What was also useful is they allowed us to mute the clip so there was no background sound . This allowed us to add soundtrack onto the trailer more effectively. I used the video camera and a tripod to create still frames. However I did encounter a problem with this when I took the camera home once and found out that it had no battery. I also used a digital camera, then I uploaded the images into my laptop, chose the most suitable image for my poster and used some photo editing programmes to change it’s appearance etc. for the photos I used a programme called Photoshop where I used the tools to edit the background, change the contrast/brightness and add the necessary things e.g. titles.
my trailer used conventions of real media products , such as titles . The location of my trailer is in a house, which is similar to the location of other trailers of this genre. repeated quick scenes- fast paced editing used throughout. Voiceovers are used in some parts of the trailer. Blood is used in my trailer and this is similar to other trailers and this is what is expected in a horror trailer. Narrative text- This is common within trailers and this is what I did to give the audience a vague idea of what the film is about. Preview shot- This is found on most trailers, therefore I included this at the beginning of my own trailer.
Weapon- in my trailer uses a weapon which is a knife compared to other horror trailers where the killer also uses weapons. The music that I used builds up tension which is very common with the horror genre. Time of day- my trailer is set at night, and this is an important aspect of real horror trailers. It is also around a minute long which fits into the conventions of teaser trailers. overall i would say my teaser trailer fit into the horror convention I know this because it is over a minute long , and very little of the storyline is given away. The title are quite similar to the trailer priest this proves that our trailer adheres to the conventions of media trailers. our teaser trailer includes shots such as; panning shot, dutch angle, low angle, close up and establishing zooming out shot. The vast range of shots that will excite the audience. Our poster fitted in with the conventions it included; a title, tagline, critics review, images and colours that link to film, certificate and finally the credits. Our magazine cover included ; a logo, date, barcode and price. It also had an Image on the cover that linked to our film as well as the colour scheme fitting in with the magazine: sight and sound. Finally I would say overall all of my media products predominantly fit into the conventions of; teaser trailers, posters and magazine covers . This is great because it means my media products look authentic and realistic. Colours had to represents are conventions to help to create effect but the fonts and images were important too in conveying the horror genre, however the genre of my film is not just simply horror but a sub genre which is a psychological horror so the images also had to convey the meaning of madness which is exactly what the outcome is. Both formats showcase similar colours of deep reds and blackish grey tones to emphasise the meaning of horror.
Overall I think my media product mostly uses the conventions and forms of real media products because I got most of my ideas from looking at the different forms of media available from everywhere that I looked, I do not think my work challenged it because I did not really want to stray too far from what the audience saw as the normal everyday media product. All of the viewers thought that the soundtrack was suitable for the trailer. when we asked our viewers if the build up to the fast edited shots was to slow only 20% thought it was to slow and the rest thought it was good and gave more of an insight into the film.
I think my project was a success even though I found it difficult as me and Pauline both were working on it and didn’t always have the time to sit down together and work on it , even though it was tough I enjoyed doing the coursework particularly the days when filming was being done as they were such memorable times.
