Props & costumes & characters

In my media production I have four girls involved in a house, they are all victims and shown dead or getting killed.
One of my characters will be recording the scenes with a video camera; therefore will not be in the trailer.
The people that are going to be used in my trailer are: Marian, Ola, Pauline and Lindsey.  The location for my film trailer is my house. Ola : (as her hands are only in the shot) Black gloves.  Props that are going to be used in my film trailer are: a bowl of crisps/popcorn, a bottle of drink, flowers, Television, and the rest of the furniture in the house. The locations in the house will also have to fit in to the horror genre e.g. the bathroom will be a place were we use one of are scenes to show a killing.
I have chosen the location to be in a house this is because I have looked at other locations in my research and found that most horror films are filmed in houses.
All the furniture and scenery will stay the same in the house as I want it to look as natural as it can be.
To fit in to my horror genre we will have to use things like fake blood and other objects so that it looks gory and shows the audience that this a is a horror film.
The costumes that my characters will be wearing are ordinary clothes, as I am using girls in my film and it’s a sleepover they will be wearing pyjamas. As it’s a sleepover there will be food on the table to make it look realistic as possible for the audience.
The lightening in the dark should be quite dull in the house, there should only be dim lights to set the atmosphere. Also we are recording are scenes in the dark at night to make it look and fit in to the horror genre. There will be a few candles flickering to set the mood.

Teaser trailer

Nightmare on elm street Teaser Trailer

Logo production

New line cinema
Exhibition of trailers and short films has heavily developed over the last 5 years or so. Previously you would have only seen trailers or short films when you went to see a film at the cinema and apart from this you would have only seen regular advertisement posters etc.
However, since the internet has grown we are now commonly taking advantage of video sharing websites such as YouTube which provide us with a platform for the exhibition of trailers and short films. These video sharing websites also allow visitors to leave comments of opinions
iTunes also run a Short Film section in their Store which is updated on a monthly basis, this assists the industry in making short films even more accessible to a wider audience.
Cable television companies have also developed and adapted their services to include short films which are normally used to fill spaces in schedules where they wouldn't be able to fit in a full length film - so widening their audience at the same time as completing their schedules.
There has also been a development in which technology is now used on billboard advertisement to convert old paper billboards to "television" screens which can display motion pictures such as trailers and short films.

Research

I researched on other films that matched my idea e.g. the nightmare on elm street, were one by one the students get murdered by a man who worked in their lower school.
We also looked at other films, such as saw, the decent and the hole
The Decent: With the car crash and then it goes to one year later. This makes you wanting to see what was the result of the crash and how there coping.
The Hole: The scream makes you want to see what happens next. The opening scenes in this is very powerful especially with the scream.
The reason why we got inspired by these is because of the whole idea of making something big happen in the first two minutes and then moving on to 1 week later or something. This would make the viewer wanting to watch what happens next. But as we are only doing the first two minutes we would just have something big happen then finish the film.

Location

Locations and Actors.
These are the locations for the trailer:
(in a house at night)
The bathroom: of the bath show the stains of blood, the mirror to be steamed
the stair’s and pathway: girls walking in to the house getting ready for a girls sleepover
living room :this is where one of the girls will start hear a voice, anusal noises, this is the main part of the trailer, the girls will mostly be in here as they are watching films, and having a girly night
in.

The mise-en-scene is important for the setting the scene, as it sets the mood of the film along with the music. For example in a horror film you wouldn’t want the sun shining in a horror film unless it is important to that scene because that item doesn’t fit into the horror convention.
The way the actors will speak will also help set the mood to the film, if dong a script we should make sure we talk how teenagers speak in the 21 st century.

Target Audience

Our potential target audience we will be trying to influence is the ages from 16 to 30, this is because it is the national average people who watch horror films.
The people who couldn’t not watch it legally, would watch is it on DVD, or in some areas in the UK the certificate rating could be lowered to 15.
The film will have a certificate of 18 due to the conventions we will be using in the film

Schedule

September ( research and questionnaires)
1st ancillary October
2nd ancillary due November
Final production due December
Evaluation due January

Target audience ( appeal )

The choice of genre we picked was horror/ thriller due to the fact that our audience research lead us to believe that our target audience which is young adults prefer to watch this genre more then any other genre. And we started on the idea that we would keep most of the conventions the same as this gave us a good idea on producing a realistic horror and thriller.
Storyboard.
Main character
is an ordinary girl who is having the sleepover she is murdered first
She is then seen in a bathroom
Then a close up of her looking psychotic.
Actors.
We auditioned some applicants for the various roles:
The main character.
Only the voice of a victim.
These are the applicants:
This person was perfect for the part of the victim, she looked good in front of the camera and could act the naive scenes perfectly.
This person had a dark look about her, with a mysterious aura, furthermore she looks rugged and worn, so therefore fitting for the murderer part
.

outline of brief

Involves 4 girls in a house (sleepover)
One by one they are haunted and then murdered by something, audience do not see who it is, the teaser only shows one of the girls murdered because of the time

Planning

The brief we have chosen to do is Teaser Trailer. This is due to many reasons:
We are both interested in films and regularly watch them, so we are able to see lots of trailers in many formats, on the internet, in cinemas and at the start of DVDs.
We feel as though a better outcome would be possible from producing a teaser trailer than a music video because, we wouldn't need to contact an unsigned artist after searching high and low for a band which suits both of our musical interests/preferred genre.
The planning stages which we have had to go through are as follows.
Ideas - choosing genre, storyline, characters etc..
Storyboards (both drawn and photographed)
Synopsis of the whole film to make it easier for us to piece the film together and help to make the trailer make sense. (Basic storyline)
Script of the trailer (not the whole film)
After looking at a few horror teaser trailers (saw 6, paranormal activity, dead silence) I have found out that they use alot of fast paced imagery, clips and tense music to put you on the edge of your seat.
In horror teaser trailers they try not to give to much away with what they put into the trailer as they don’t want to give to much away also it leaves the audience with questions therefore the audience will want to see the film to get the answers to there questions.
The idea of a horror teaser trailer is to scare the audiece into wanting the see the film also they try to have an original idea so it will be something new for the audience to experience in the world of horror as there is only so far you can go with each genre.
